About This Project.
Riverside House is a former Royal water mill with origins dating back to 1377, Selleck Nicholls was asked by the owners of a redundant corn mill which had been family run for generations to find a development solution. The vast steel structure distributed over an acre site had evolved over time encompassing the remains of the stone mill and outbuilding. Selleck Nicholls using our planning expertise successfully obtained planning permission to demolish the modern steel mill and restore the stone mill building into a large detached home with the outbuilding restored to create a separate living unit. The design of the property drew inspiration from a single photo of the original mill taken in 1910. Many original features were restored using traditional techniques, hand made bricks were commissioned to match those found in the original structure to restore damaged sections of the original openings and much of the natural stone used was quarried from the original location to match that of the older structure whilst utilising modern technological advancements within the new home.
